My Heroes

When I sat down and first started thinking about who my heroes were, I felt lost.
I wasn't really sure where to start.
Who made me want to be a better person? Who did I think deserved that "hero" tag?
But then the answer made itself clear, and quickly.
I have many heroes.  Many people to look up to.
It's you.  It's me.  It's him.  It's her.
I look up to all the people that wake up in the morning and go at the day in a positive light.  That to me is one of the most honourable things a person can do.  It's hard to stay positive all the time.  Sometimes it's damn near impossible. But the power of being positive is unbelievable.
When you're having a nasty moment, maybe even a whole nasty day, and that positive person comes by and picks you up in just the right way, that's the good stuff right there. That to me is heroic.
I like this line of thinking because it reminds me that we can all be heroes.  You don't need to have an international audience, you don't need to make millions of dollars, and the history books don't need to be full of your stories to be a hero.  Fuck that.
Embrace the now and look for the good in your fellow people.
That's how you become my hero.
