I opened the door to my apartment with a warm smile... I was finally home. Eight hard hours of work at the factory had beaten my spirit, but it was ok now because my wife would be here to greet me with love. Silence. "Odd," I thought to myself "where is my lovely wife? Hmm... maybe she's out getting groceries... or out with her girl friends. Ah yes, that's it. Shopping at the mall with the ladies. No biggy, hope she doesn't spend too much money...Oh well, she deserves it. She makes me so happy." I walked to the kitchen counter and put my empty travel mug in the sink after rinsing it. Next, I made my way to the bedroom to take off my clothes so I could have a refreshing shower. When I opened the door, my wife was lying on the bed with her back to me underneath the sheets. "Oh!" I thought "She is having an afternoon nap. She isn't out with her friends after all..." I quietly took my clothes off, trying not to wake her, and placed them in the hamper. I then made for the shower in the adjacent room. After a nice long shower, I dried myself off with a towel and put on some fresh clothes. I looked at my wife. "Still sleeping" I observed. I decided I would make dinner for us both and surprise her. I walked to the kitchen and put some spaghetti noodles on the stove in a pot of water. After about ten minutes of boling, I put the sauce on in a seperate pot and heated that up too. Once I had the table set and our meals in place I headed back to our bedroom. I walked around the bed to face her. That's when I noticed the empty bottle of sleeping pills next to a piece of paper on the nightstand. I looked at the pale complexion of my wife. Suddenly, the gravity of the situation had shifted. My limbs went numb and my mind disappeared. She was dead...
